It's my business and I'll cry if I want to

Does Blue Monday really exist?

Tomorrow is Blue Monday, the day a random travel company decided is the gloomiest 24 hours of the year.

It might be totally made up, but it definitely feels like there’s something in the air right now.

They say bad things come in threes and it seems like it’s been three things a day this week!

I’m usually pretty positive, but sometimes you have to give in to how you’re feeling and accept that the best thing to do is to light a candle, get under a blanket and make your way through one of your Christmas books.

Starting HI Communications and being self employed is the best thing I’ve ever done, but that doesn’t mean it’s always perfect, or even enjoyable.

When I feel stuck or I’m having a bad week I look back at how far I’ve come to get a reminder of how things started. This weekend I spent an hour sorting out the office and found my old bullet journals. One of them was from 2017, only a few years ago, but the difference felt massive. Firstly I didn’t have a mortgage, pay council tax or worry about gas and electric (ah the joys of living at home!) But my goals had changed too. I’m not quite setting out for world domination just yet but as I read through I noticed...

  • My income goals have gone up.

  • The value I give to my clients has increased.

  • The services I offer have changed and developed.

  • My knowledge and confidence have grown massively.

HI Communications doesn’t just feel like a hobby I’ve 'got lucky with' and somehow managed to keep going anymore. Running a business can be tough and it might feel like you aren't getting anywhere, but every small choice you make has an impact on moving you forward. Every Instagram picture, every blog post, every newsletter, every time you tell someone new what you do, it all adds up to big results. In a few years time you'll be glad you started. I’m proud of my business, but I’m the only one who can get it to where I want it to be. What’s that saying? Only look back to see how far you’ve come? Well that’s what I’m doing this weekend. Hopefully one day I’ll look back on this newsletter and feel the same in the future too!

Don’t forget if you’re looking for some easy wins for your business this month I’m running my #TeaBreakTips on Instagram! Each day I'm sharing a quick 10 minute marketing tip to do while you're sipping a cup of tea. Find them all on my page here.
